Last Week: w/c 20th July

July 27, 2009

Monday: Wasn’t sure whether to run today – I’d been getting some twinges in my left knee over the past few weeks but ignored them as I didn’t get them every run and they went within the first 100m. However, Sunday’s run had left me with an aching knee even after I’d got home, though it got somewhat better during the course of the evening. I decided to go anyway and did a new 6.68km route through the city in 41:51 (yes, I’m changing how I write times). Probably a mistake as my knee decided it didn’t like this, which called for some RICE-ing in the afternoon and evening.

I didn’t start to see any improvement in my knee until Wednesday afternoon, walking was easier but I wasn’t anywhere near ready to run on it. Basketball was cancelled again on Wednesday night and so I spent most of the first half of the week entertaining myself with the idea of doing a triathlon (it’s entered my mind a few times but not seriously until now). It’s something that would need some proper research but I’d like to do one, hopefully more than one, at some point.

Friday: Did my Pilates DVD after my press ups. Knee held up so it looks like I’m good to cross-train until it heals properly. Ally mentioned the possibility of getting a 2 week membership at his gym so I might look into that next week.

Saturday: Back to archery this morning. My technique has gone out the window, and it’s surprising just how difficult I found it. I’ll have to work on rebuilding the muscles in my back so I don’t have to take a tea break after every 6 ends.

Sunday: Finally got a basketball training session scheduled, but only 3 of us showed up. It was a good session though – better than some of the regular ones I’ve been to on a Wednesday night. We did a few drills, some suicides (speed stuff pushing up and down the court) and a fair amount of shooting practice. Good fun, and I managed to work up a sweat. Props to Ally for jumping in as coach and setting up some lay ups :-) I also did 3 sets of 10 sit ups on the bench when I got home.

Total Run: 6.68km

On an unrelated note, I donated blood this week. It’s something I’m very much behind and would encourage anyone that doesn’t already go to check out the next donation session. It’s a couple of hours at a time, only 3 times a year, and you get free biscuits :-)

  1. Hmmm doesn’t sound like it went so well for you sports-wise last week but hopefully this week will be better, congratulations again on giving blood :)

As for triathlons it makes sense as you do all three events already, I thought of you when I wrote http://is.gd/1PaD6 about two police officers doing the Trentham triathlon but then promptly forgot all about it, at the moment http://www.trentham-triathlon.co.uk/ is dead but imagine it’ll go live again next year.
