I really hope the medication works out for you. It must be so frustrating, but just don't stop looking for a solution for those feet, someone, somewhere must be able to help.

Hi Dave, thanks for reading this [rather old!] post and taking the time to comment. I hope you don't mind me asking but does the nerve damage to your feet stop you from running? I only ask because that in itself is enough for you to be classified as a disabled player. I have been diagnosed with allodynia in my feet - I still walk around but can also play wheelchair basketball. Even if you can still run you can play nationally (just not internationally) as a 5-point player. Most teams will have at least one. Even the coach of my new club is able-bodied!

There is a big focus on getting kids and young people involved, especially those with lower spinal cord injuries, because a lot of them are often left out of other sporting activities, but that's definitely very different to the higher level basketball you see being played in the leagues. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a club which you wouldn't fit into.

Neither Mavericks or Devils are in the super league so I would recommend going to visit both - explain your situation, get a feel for the club and their aims and objectives. If they're big enough clubs there will be a focus on both fitness and game training and you may find you have a wait a bit before getting court time at a league game. If they're not happy about you joining the club because you're new to the sport then they're probably not worth your time.

As for your friend - coaching courses are generally advertised on the gbwba website, and tend to be organised by local clubs. He may want to contact someone at the gbwba before signing up to a course, just to check suitability. I've never seen a coach in an power chair, but that's not saying it can't be done - my partner coaches able bodied rugby from his chair.

I'm conscious of the fact that this comment is extremely long, if you'd like to discuss this any further then please feel free to e-mail me: sarah@runningfromzombies.com Thanks

this i can really relate to. i love watching the sport and i want to play, but i dont want to intrude and im wary of feeling like that, even though i have minor nerve damage in my foot and some burns injuries, i dont use a wheelchair. im 36, really unfit and wouldnt last 5 minutes at the pace ive seen it played. theres no development league team near me (manchester). Should i approach the manchester mavericks? or bury blue devils maybe? or would there standard be too high? the onus seems to be on young people, particularly wheelchair users with spinal injuries and i really am wary of feeling like an intruder.. any advice? ps:(my friend has cp, he's in an electric chair, he's interested in coaching)

I really hope this new medication does start to help you. Honestly the diagnosis seems a little like a guess but House does that and it seems to work for him.

In terms of zombie apocalypse at least I now know what to get you for christmas: http://unrealitymag.com/index.php/2010/07/09/the-ultimate-zombie-killer/

Very proud! I'm working on a new post at the moment, but a running blog with no running makes difficult writing!

I think you're too skeptic that's why you were not able to feel the effect. For me it really works, not to mention i'm very skeptic with medications specially unusual products like these too. I have a jaw problem which tends to make my nerves act weird. SOmetime I even have spasms on my face and hands and wearing this made me feel a lot better and my back aches though not completely gone but it becamse lighter. I seldom go to spas anymore go i feel more relaxed now. I don't know what happened in your case though. But for many for sure it's not just any other fashion statements cuz if that's so i'd rather go for fashion jewelries etc. since i don't really like the style but i love it's effects.
