Last Week: w/c 23rd March

March 30, 2009

Tuesday: A 30 minute 5k as a warm up for a weight session. I ended up doing another 1km at the end so I could recalibrate my nike+. It’s not been as accurate since I started walking less.

Wednesday: A recalibrated 7.5k. My shoes were spot on this time. 47 minutes.

Thursday: No basketball on Wednesday night so was around to go for a run Thursday morning. Set off to do another 7.5k but got odd stabbing pains during the 3rd km. Got so bad that I gave up at 4.3km (25 mins). Decided to have a stretch and then do a couple of km on the exercise bike to finish up.

Friday: Yet another 7.5k in 47 minutes. I think it’s going to be easier to just add on 500m next week instead of trying to get my 7.5k down to 45 minutes.

Sunday: My last 7.5k. My time according to my shoes was a little over 48 minutes but I know that the distance was slightly off as the treadmill was saying 7.75km by the end. I actually clocked in at a little under 47 minutes at the 7.5k mark.

As of midday yesterday I was beating Matt in our monthly distance challenge by 58.8km to 30.1km. I’d finally moved out of the 20s to 16th place in the ’300 miles in 300 days’ challenge (out of 55). The official Nike+ Men vs Women challenge isn’t quite as good. The men have more than doubled our distance of 134,500km. I can only assume it’s because we have less runners :-)

Last Week: w/c 9th March

March 16, 2009

Tuesday: As you may have read, Tuesday was a good 7k run. Took a little under 45 minutes but I hope to cut that down before July.

Thursday: Didn’t get to the gym in the morning so ran a quick 3.5k out on the street in the late afternoon. Was just a bit too cold for my asthma but I’m glad it’s getting warmer.

Friday: Another 7k on the treadmill. 44 minutes this time.

Yet again, Wednesday evening was basketball in West Brom. No running at the weekend because I was so busy with other things.

In slightly unrelated news; the Nike+ Men vs Women Challenge started on Friday. I joined it (along with 18,400 other people) and have contributed Friday’s 7k to the Women’s total, which currently stands at 16,000k. Unfortunately, it would appear that there are more men in this challenge than women as they are almost up to the 40,000k mark.

Friday also marked the end of my monthly challenge with my friend Matt. He sneakily got a 6k run in on the last day which brought our totals to 55.14k vs 54.06k. Congrats to Matt.

Nike+

March 6, 2009

I just have to tell you about this bit of kit. For anyone that doesn’t know, the Nike+ system comprises of a receiver, which plugs into your iPod nano, and a sensor, which fits in your Nike trainer. Once calibrated to your walking and running gait, information from each run is saved onto your iPod. Namely the distance, time, pace and calories burned. The next time you sync your iPod, you have the option to send your run information to the Nike+ website where your run will be displayed in a lovely graph.
